The four steps

Choose a photo
Open the app and choose an image from your device. A clear subject with a strong strip of color gives the stretch an obvious place to begin.

Place the sampling bar
Move and rotate the bar across the color you want to carry into the ribbon. Car paint, bright clothing, lights, signs, and patterns give the stretch more structure than one flat tone.

Pull and bend the stretch
Tap an arrow for a straight pull or drag it to sketch a curved path. Adjust the blue control points until the ribbon follows a direction that already makes sense in the photo.

How to make the stretch read as motion
Put the sampling bar near an outside edge of the subject and pull the ribbon into open space. A car usually looks right with color trailing behind it; a runner, cyclist, skier, or snowboarder works best when the ribbon follows the direction the subject has already travelled.
